Virgin Australia is offering triple Velocity points on all paid bookings. To be eligible for bonus points, you must activate and complete your booking by 1st April 2019. The travel period is from 25th March 2019 until 18th Feb 2020. Bonus points will be applied to the base points. If you hold Silver, Gold or Platinum status in the Velocity program, the tier bonuses are NOT eligible for bonus points.

Virgin Australia splits economy fares into 3 classes, Getaway, Elevate and Freedom (cheapest to most expensive). Business class fares are sold under ‘Business Saver and Business’ class.

The standard earn rate on domestic & short-haul International flights is 5 points per $.

Getaway economy fare is not eligible for bonus points. Silver, Gold & Platinum members earn 50%, 75% and 100% bonus points on top of the base points as long as they are travelling on Elevate or Freedom fare.

For instance, a Platinum member flying from Melbourne to Adelaide on Elevate fare priced at $190 will generally earn 950 base points (5 points per $) plus another 950 bonus points (100% bonus on base points). Under the current offer, the same booking will attract 2,850 base points (3x base points) and 950 bonus points for a total of 3,800 points.

The number of points you earn on long-haul International flights to Hong Kong and Los Angeles is based on the fare class and distance flown. You can look up the full details here.

In Conclusion

These offers come around at-least once, if not twice a year. Virgin Australia had a promotion last month where they offered double status credits. I suspect a lot of savvy travellers and status chasers would have taken advantage of that offer and booked much of their travel for 2019.

There are no bonus status credits on offer here, but if you have future travel plans, this may be a good time to book your flights and pick-up some bonus points.
