American Express have brought back one of their most popular promotions. For the month of April, Amex cardmembers can earn 10,000 points for the 1st additional card they add to their account. The type of points you earn depends on your existing card, for example:

• You will earn 10,000 Membership Rewards Points if your card earns Membership Rewards Points.
• You will earn 10,000 Qantas points if your card earns Qantas Points.
• You will earn 10,000 Velocity points if you have a Velocity points earning card.

There is no spend requirement under the offer, you will be awarded the points as long as the additional card is approved.

Amex allows you to add up to 4 additional cards per account at no extra cost, but the points will be awarded on the 1st additional card only, so just keep that in mind.

Add a card in April 2023 & earn 10,000 Membership Rewards Points

Amex haven’t publicly promoted the offer and I only noticed it upon logging into my account this afternoon.

Although it may be possible to earn points by calling Amex and adding additional cards over the phone, I suggest you apply online if you get the pop-up like the one shown above. And since all of my cards were eligible for bonus points, I have a feeling most people (if not everyone) should qualify for the promotion.

For what it’s worth, I already had additional cardmembers on my cards, so there is nothing to suggest that the offer is exclusively only for accounts with no additional card.

Is this a good deal

I value American Express Membership Rewards Points at 1 cent per point, so the bonus 10,000 Points to me are worth at least $100. Meanwhile, I value both Velocity and Qantas points at 1.5c a piece which means those points are worth at least $150. Not bad for 5 minutes of your time filling out the form.

I must say that my valuation of 1 cent per point for Membership Rewards Points is very much on the conservative side, you can extract 2-3x more value by transferring those points to one of Amex airline partners and redeeming them for long-haul Business or First Class flights.

In Conclusion

Amex is running a promotion through the month of April whereby cardmembers who apply for an additional card and are approved will pocket 10,000 points. There is no minimum spend requirement to earn the points, as long as the card is approved, you will be awarded the points.

If you have an American Express card, I highly recommend you log-in and check if you have the offer. To be able to earn 10,000 points (or more depending on how many different type of Amex cards you have) for spending 5 minutes of your time is an absolute no-brainer.
