If you are new to Uber, here is an opportunity to pocket some easy Qantas points. First time Uber riders who link their Uber and Qantas Frequent Flyer accounts and take an eligible ride will be awarded 2,000 bonus Qantas points.
If you don’t yet have an Uber account, you can sign-up for a free account through this link.
Eligible rides are those requested via Uber or Qantas app to or from major Australian Airports and exclude UberEATS delivery. Following airports are classified as major airports by Qantas and Uber :
- Sydney Airport
- Melbourne Airport
- Brisbane Airport
- Perth Airport
- Adelaide Airport
- Canberra Airport
- Newcastle Airport
- Cairns Airport
- Townsville Airport
- Avalon Airport
- Gold Coast Airport
- Hobart Airport
Besides the one-time bounty of 2,000 bonus points, Qantas Frequent Flyer members will earn 1 Qantas point per $1 on airport rides on an ongoing basis. As per terms of the offer, it make take up to 6 weeks for the points to be credited to your account, although in my own experience they generally post within a few days.
I value Qantas points at 1.5c per point making the 2,000 points worth around $30, not bad for a single ride.
Note that when it comes to rideshare, Qantas & Uber are not the only game in town. Ola and Velocity have their own partnership offering bonus points to Velocity members. See this link for details.
