Virgin Australia have just come out with a brand new triple points promotion on all eligible flights. Under the promo, starting today, all revenue flights booked by 18th February, for travel until 5th January 2021 will earn 3x bonus points.
To be clear, the bonus applies to base points only. This does not affect any tiered bonuses linked to your elite status in the Velocity Frequent Flyer Program. The offer doesn’t appear to be targeted, although activation is required prior to booking flights.
Steps to Earn 3x Velocity points
- Login to your Velocity account and activate the 3x Velocity points offer by 18th Feb 2020.
- Book your Virgin Australia operated flights by 18th February for travel up to and including 5th Jan 2021. Partner flights and award flights are ineligible for this offer.
- Sit back and wait for bonus points to hit your account. This can take up to 4 weeks after completion of travel, although on past experience these have usually posted at the same time as standard points.
In Conclusion
Airlines around the world are feeling the financial pinch as death toll from corona virus approaches the 4 digit mark and people defer, or altogether cancel travel plans. Virgin Australia itself have permanently withdrawn all services to Hong Kong. In this backdrop, it’s not a surprise to see this offer.
If you have confirmed travel plans or if you have been fence-sitting and waiting for some kind of bonus offer to come around, this is the time to pull the trigger. In the past sometimes, we have seen bonus points offer being shortly followed up with bonus status credits offer, although there is no way to tell if that may happen here. Still, just be aware of it.
