After collecting our bags from the carousel we exited the arrivals hall, hopped on a taxi and arrived at our hotel in Seminyak.
Location & Classification
Four Points by Sheraton is located in the popular Bali neighbourhood of Seminyak, close to Kuta and about 45 mins -1 hr taxi ride from the Denpasar airport. Seminyak square with lots of shopping and dining options is about 5 minutes by taxi. Seminyak is also a convenient spot to set-up base and explore the rest of the island during your time in Bali.
The property is classified as Marriott Category 3, with cash prices starting at around $100 per night. At this price, it made little sense to redeem points so I decided to pay cash for my stay. That said, if you do make an award booking, a standard room will set you back 17,500 Marriott Bonvoy points per night. Mind you, with peak/off-peak pricing now in place, you may have to pay anywhere between 15,000 – 20,000 points per night, as shown below.

Check-in & Lobby
Access to the property is through a set of somewhat steep stairs. Once up, there are 3 check in desks to the left.

Reception, Four Points by Sheraton Bali, Seminyak
I was received by one of the staffs and escorted to the reception. After the customary presentation of passport which was photocopied, I was advised that I had been upgraded to a junior suite. The hotel doesn’t have too many suites, so I thought my upgrade from the standard garden view room into the junior suite was a good outcome.
I was presented with the welcome letter and offered the choice of points or breakfast. Since the property doesn’t have a lounge, I chose breakfast for my welcome gift as the 500 Marriott Bonvoy points aren’t worth much.

I enquired if they offer anything extra to the elite guests in absence of the lounge, and was handed-in a drink voucher that I could redeem once during my stay at the rooftop bar ‘Above’. More on this later.
The lobby offers generous amounts of seating. There are several comfortable sofas and chairs to the right of the reception area.

The hotel’s primary dining venue Devali is also located in the lobby, just off the reception, which I will talk about a little later in my review.
Devali is the hotel’s main restaurant
Since my luggage had already been transferred to the allocated room, I picked up the keys and headed for the room on level 5.
Junior Suite
I was assigned room no. 568 on level 5 which was the highest floors with guest rooms.

The term Junior suite is a bit misleading since these are essentially just 1 large room. Sure they are bigger than standard rooms and usually contain a sofa-bed, but there is no separation of living room from the bedroom as is the case in a standard suite.
Entryway to Room 568
Anyhow, as you enter, there was a very large, fully mirrored wardrobe on the left.

Further down the entry way and to the left, there was an L shaped sofa and a round table.
It would be handy for family with small children as you could convert it into a sofa-bed come night time.

Facing the sofa, there was an entertainment unit with a flat screen television. You could swivel the TV around and also watch it from your King-size bed, which lay on the other side.

There was a small table on 1 end and a bench on the other. Just above was a power board with all kinds of charging outlets and a mirror next to it.
To the left of the bed, there was an empty bar-fridge and a small luggage rack next to it. There were 2 bottles of water, an electric kettle and some provisions for DIY tea and coffee.
Lastly, there were end to end sliding doors on the far end that opened into a long, narrow balcony. There were views of a small garden and adjoining homes around the property.

The bathroom was located back near the entrance, and to the right. It featured a single sink, and had bottled water, personal grooming kit and bath amenities on the counter top.

There were towels and a bag with hair-dyer in the shelf below.
The shower had tonnes of space and featured both the hand-held and the monsoon rain-shower. The water pressure was strong and consistent making showering a joy. There was a toilet adjacent to the shower.

The bath tub was located opposite the shower and had see-through glass partition, with views of the king bed across from it.
Bath with a view
In all my years of travel and having stayed at hundreds of hotel rooms, I still haven’t warmed up to this style of bath layout. Thankfully, you could pull down the shade and make bathing a private affair.
Dining
The property features 2 dining venues, with the all day restaurant Devali located on the lobby level, next to the reception. This is also where they serve breakfast each morning. As you enter, there is a bar to the left where barista’s whip-up cups of tea and coffee during breakfast hours.

The restaurant is huge with plenty of seating. The open-plan layout and the natural light filtering through the windows give the whole place a lift.

The main buffet station was set up towards the end of the restaurant on the left. The breakfast spread was pretty good, there were all the usual hot & cold options that you would expect at a 4 star buffet breakfast. I will let the pictures speak.

There was a stand-alone buffet station featuring local Balinese and other Indonesian dishes such as chicken rendang.

If you wanted even more variety, you could order from the a la carte menu featuring numerous dishes such as smoked salmon bagel which I had one morning.

My smoked salmon bagel was delicious
The bakery items were on the corner near the entrance, plus there were all kinds of breakfast cereal, fruit juices & infused water on the dispensers nearby.

All up, I thought the breakfast offering was above par and offered lots of variety to suit different tastes.
The other venue offering food and beverage service was the rooftop bar named Above. It was open daily from 6 pm until late and appeared really chic and swanky.

I wanted to check it out on one of the evenings and have a few drinks and nibbles, sadly the stars never aligned. So on my last night, I quickly ran-up to get a few photos purely for the review, as you can see above.
Other Amenities
The property has a 25 meter outdoor pool located on Level 2. There were lots of outdoor furniture laid-out on one side.

Some of the hotel rooms offer direct access to the pool. This means that many of the guests staying in these rooms spend best part of their days in the water, great for them, but not so pleasant for other hotel guests, in what is the hotel’s only pool and isn’t exactly massive.
Also located on Level 2, is a small gym. It had some basic weights and cardio machines.

However, with no windows, very low ceiling, a mediocre aircon system and little natural light, working out is a sweaty business.
One of the nice amenities offered by the hotel is the on-demand buggy transport. Since the hotel is located some 200 metres away from the main road, from where you could hail a taxi or go out for a meal, I found the buggy service very useful, particularly during the intense afternoon heat and humidity of Bali.

The only other amenity the hotel offers is an in-house spa, which is located on Level 5. I forgot to take a photo, but never noticed anybody going in or out, so couldn’t even say whether it was operational.
In Conclusion
The best part of staying at Four Point by Sheraton Bali, Seminyak is it’s central location. The property itself is fine, if unremarkable. Although the prices aren’t high, in the context of overall hotel market in Bali, I wouldn’t necessarily consider them dirt cheap either.
I stayed at this property for 3 nights and thought that was a bit too long at a property of this standard. In my opinion, it is more suited for overnight stays or perhaps a slightly longer lay-over. For stays of 3 or more nights, I would look at a more premium Marriott brand such as W Bali or The St Regis.
Overall, and all things considered, I would consider returning to this property only under the right circumstances.
